What a wonderful outdoor show it was. I sat
right up on the front row left of the stage, last/corner seat I
held my spot by listening politely to the other bands, applause,
etc. They were pretty good. I kept looking around for Ted Karam
& Neal Williams, and was able meet and talk to both of them....thank
you for making me feel welcome, guys, and a part of your "Reunion
Of Friends." The Stratoblasters were on just before Glass
Harp, and when they got down to their last two songs or so, Phil
came out with his red and yellow Gibson and played a few warm-up
toons, an "All-Star Jam"...they had six guitars going
for a bit there. He played rhythm for awhile to "When a Man
Loves A Woman" and looked either bored, or unhappy playing a
secular tune, or both, but perked up when he got into a solo
session with Greg Martin and the others.
Last night at our weekly Sat. Phil Keaggy chat I asked Rob
Whitehurst and everyone what would they want played at their
funeral; I immediately said to everyone," I want "I'm
Going Home" played at mine. Well, thats what they opened the
Sunday show with!! they were all really "on".... Phil
Dan & John really seemed tight (meaning good!!) Dan's bass
really anchored them well, I don't know what they'd do without
him, (really solid, Dan) and John's drumming was absolutely hard
drivin'/stupendeous...and Phil was, as always, Phil. (absolutely
great!!!.. nuf said)
They followed my above favorite with 9 other songs; 2) Do Lord 3)Be
Exalted from Inseparable 4)John singing "Changes" 5)
Chalice (Inseparable) 6)Daniel singing Never Is A Long Time 7)John
The Revelator (with Greg Martin giving a short testimony for the
Lord and was added as a fourth member for this song)(Crimson
& Blue 8)Nothing But The Blood (Crimson & Blue) 9)Can You
See Me 10) and Look In The Sky as the closer (I heard it was at
one time a traditional opener!?!)
Just before they sang "Can You See Me" Phil said "well,
we'll try and do one more set" and I thought I heard John
say "I can't, I'm too cold!!" and Phil and John
immediately donned light coats. (Phil his 2nd, John his first
coat...he was dressed rather lightly to begin with.)It was warm,
sunny & low 60's, most of the afternoon, but during the 2nd
hour of Glass Harp, the sun started setting with a light overcast
and the wind picked up, and it probably dropped into the mid-50's
with a wind making it feel colder. I was shivering in my seat but
still having a great time. Afterwards, Phil was gracious enough
to sign quite a few autographs. I had a book bag with with about
9 or 10 Glass Harp LP's, but only pulled three out, because of
the crowd. When I got my turn, Phil said politely, "I'll one
of those" so without hesitation I handed him my sealed Way
Back Home vinyl LP...I wanted to get my It Makes Me Glad album
signed by all three, but John and Dan signed maybe one thing each
at the start of the show, ( I'm not complaining guys... I'm
thankful to just have been there!!! ...things don't always turn
out our way for good reasons) so I opted for the Way Back Home to
be signed. I said Phil, if there was one thing I could choose to
get signed, its that" he smiled and said "God Bless
You, my friend." He got real cold at the end of the
signings, pulled his coats tighter around him, and said....its
cold out here, I've gotta go!!! and left. As he turned and walked
away, I shouted "Thanks alot for coming, Phil!!! and he
waved in acknowledgement as he stepped off the back of the stage."
That was it...a rare treat for a Texas boy like me (on a side
note...Rick Anderson, your absolutely spoiled!!! :-) God Bless us
all, and God Bless Glass Harp!!!
