Last weekend I attended a PK
rally in Indianapolis, Ind., and Phil Keaggy gave a
little mini-concert (half an hour) during the lunch
break on Saturday.
Now, this rally was held in the
Hoosier Dome (where the Indpls Colts play -- if you
call it that) and the acoustics were, shall we say,
just not right for Phil and his acoustic guitar.
But, man, he STILL blew away
those of us who were paying attention. He opened with
a blistering version of "John the Revelator"
(remember it's an acoustic guitar), then did a real
nice song he said he wrote for his son, I think it
was called "I See Myself In You." He also
did two of my favorites from "True Believer"
"Salvation Army Band" and the title tune.
All of them fantastic! I think he did another one,
too, but I didn't have the presence of mind to write
the songs down until later in the day.
But, he wasn't over yet, he
then joined the Maranatha Promise Band for a tight,
spot-on, version of Bob Dylan's "Gotta Serve
Somebody." Phil didn't sing, but he played some
righteous lead guitar. Who knew the Promise Band
could so get down?? It begged the question of why
those fine musicians didn't play with him from the
start! It was the musical highlight of the weekend.
