Phil
Keaggy Concert Review
Christlife Family Center
Williamsburg, Ohio
October 15, 1999From:
I can't remember the
last time I've been so blessed by a concert. no, yes,
now I remember,- it was the LAST time I saw P.K., in
Louisville.!! But this is a different show, and I
have to say, right now at the outset; that for me to
try to put into words, (or even quote anything phil
said) is to do him a diservice. It's like taking the
whole thing completely _out _of _'context".And
that is not my intention.
So what follows is
just a simple set-list :
1. improv. intro. with 'not so long ago' segue into
'strong tower'
2. Cover Me (salvation army band)
3. Shades of Green - a beautiful new instrumental
which he says is 50% Irish,
guitar tech. note: two capos in two diferrent
positions on the neck, and an ingenius, (undiscypherable)
tuning.
4-5. title track from LBT, *** testimony for Christ
*** 'the Answer' (glass harp)
6. John the Revelator (fuzz tone acoustic guitsr?
wild.)
7. Legacy - tech: open C tuning: CGCGCE /LOW-TO-HIGH
8. THE MAKER OF THE uNIVERSE (AWE INSPIRING, GREAT
POETRY,TOO)
9. A SONG BASED ON THE Beatitudes, written by Ted
Sandquist.
10. 'Beneath the Blood Stained Lentel' was brilliant,
a wonderful surprize, which i won't give away here...
11. PAKA song, with lyrics written by phil for his
father.
12. Tender Love, with lyrics penned by his sister,
Geri.
13. new song: Carry me Back, lyrics also by sister
Geri.
14.-15. Let Everything Else Go, medley w/Jesus loves
me this i know, etc./and
Tennesse morning ! (from 220)
16.-17. True Believers - fantastic dueling leads -
first in 2, then in 3 part harmony -that JAM MAN is a
really neat tool..he did a version of McCartney's
'motor of Love', but hey, Phil - is that, are those
the same words Paul used, (in the verse), or did you
come up with some new ones? - I do not have the
flowers in the dirt - Album/L.P.
18. O.K., as an encore, a terrific new sound/song,
called 'inseperable', presumably for the next vocal C.D.
sounded very unusual, very diferent, I guess this is
the one Andy Asmus was telling us about, not to long
ago.
19. But talk about 'saving the best' for last- the
final encore was by the late Rich Mullins, called
"Hold Me Jesus", AND IT touched me very
deeply- I really felt God's love and his presence-
alleluia, amen.
as a just a couple of
footnotes: Phil recieved a standing ovation before he
even played a note! since this was at a church, the
Christlife Family center, I noticed and apreciated
the fact that phil spoke alot about his family:
brothers, sisters, and mom and Dad, allowing us the
privilege, sharing with us (the audience) some funny
anecdotes and vocal characterizations?, etc. young
and old, we all enjoyed his light hearted, and very
multi-facetted personality.
And i have to say
this, three cheers for the Pastor of Christlife
Family Center for hosting this Keaggy concert, Thank-you
Pastor Wade Thomas. What a wonderful gift to give to
the congregation of your church, a PK show - october
15, 1999
BTW- his parting words
to the people gathered in the sanctuary; "Trust
in Jesus!"
how cool to have such
a massive repertoire of almost ALL original music to
choose from....you want to yell out requests......but
he has so many songs, where do you begin? it's better
just to let the artist speak for himself.... yelling
out requests is kind of rude, anyways, let you'all
go, now, thanks for listening/reading this southern/ohio
concert
