Phil
Keaggy Concert Review
Tacoma, WA
October 20, 2001From:
Well, he did it again. I saw
Phil last night in Tacoma Washington, and boy is he
ever still great! I got there about 30 minutes late,
but still got to see a TWO HOUR concert! Apparently
the show was being taped for a DVD (?!?!!). Anyone
know anything about that?
I was without paper or pen, but
here are some songs I remember-- Shades of Green,
What a Day, Duct Tape Universe, a new Uncle Duke song
called "Our Towers"--very nice, one or two
other songs that were new to me (but I'm spacing on
the names), John the Revelator, Love Broke Thru,
Don't Let Go of My Heart, a Paul Overstreet song he
dedicated to some friends in the audience (I think
its called When You Say Nothing at All), Maker of the
Universe which morphed into the instrumental God
Bless America and then into Motor of Love, Chalice,
True Believers, and Hold Me Jesus. And Lots More! He
was delightful. Mostly played the Olsen, but switched
to the Langeans for the last 4 or 5 songs. One thing
that really hit me was how his Jamman use is changing--he's
got Jam Man and other effects happening all the time
on all kinds of songs, not just the showcase pieces.
I still can't get over the electric-like sound he can
get--for example the signature lead of Love Broke
Thru sounded just like you would expect. He also did
some e-bow work on several songs, including a nice
"Amazing Grace" at the end of Hold Me Jesus
(which refers to the "Salvation Army playing
that hymn").
Very fun and very uplifting.
Thank God for Phil and his ministry!
